Yunzi Go Stones

Yunzi means Go stones manufactured in Yunnan, China. You may also call them Yunnan Go Stones. Its ancient name is YongZi, because it was originated in Yong Chang Fu where today is the Baoshan district of Yunnan Province.

Yunzi is unique, partly because of its long history which can be traced back to Tang Dynasty ( 618 to 907 AD). In ancient China, Go game is considered to be one of the Four Arts, along with music, painting, and poetry, and Yunzi stone is the favourite among scholars, monks, professional players and was used to be presented to the emperors as precious gifts.

Yunzi has a mysterious side, because the ingredients or materials and the procedure used in making the stones have been kept as a secret. Yunzi are made of a combination of natural materials, one of them is a type of agate or gemstone. The recipe was once lost due to the civil war during early 20th century. It was only recovered about 50 years ago and restored to its old-day glory by hard research and dedicated craftsmanship. Now Yunzi can be mass-produced.

Yunzi, known as the work of art, are well regarded as the professional Go stones by many international tournaments and by many tournaments in China. Yunzi is widely loved and appreciated by go game players for its excellent quality, beautiful shape and elegant colour. The white Yunzi resembles white jade, and black Yunzi has a tone of agate or green jade, if held against light it will appear dark green. The colour is mild and pleasant, it is more eyesight-friendly for long-time playing. The sound of a Yunzi dropping on to the board is splendidly bright. Yunzi are durable. Their beauty and good quality can last for years and years.

Size and Style:
Traditionally, all Chinese Go stones have a flat-sided style (single-convex). Many Go players feel more comfortable to play the game with single-convex stones. This style makes the game pieces more easily to be handled. We also provide our customers the option to choose Bi-convex Yunzi stones.
(1). Flat on one side: 21.5mm - 22.5mm in diameter; 5.5mm - 6mm in thickness.
(2). Bi-convex: 21.5mm - 22mm in diameter; 8.0mm - 9.0mm in thickness.

All our sets have at least 180 white and 181 black stones. You can always play with a little bit less than 180 of each color. Occasionally there will be 1 or 2 chipped or defective stones in a new stone set. In some cases the defect is caused by transportation. This will not affect your game playing experience. In order to make you worry-free, we will make sure that each set comes with a few extra stones in case there are any damaged ones. By saving on extra screening and inspecting we and our manufacturers are trying to provide an alternative and keep the cost much lower than the double or triple you can expect to pay for stones made from other natural materials.

Marble Go Stones

Introducing Marble Go game stones. The stone set includes 180 white stones made of white marble, and 181 black stones made of black marble. The stones glow with a natural mellow colour tone. You will especially enjoy playing go using these real stones, the cool touch between fingers and the clear clink of a stone placing on to the board. It will provide you with a sensational game playing experience.

The marble stone set is not a mess-production product. Each stone is made by hand, carved, polished and selected with care. It is understandable that no stones will be exactly the same; there are small variances in shape and size.

In ancient China, white marble is used as a high quality construction material to build temples, palaces and sculptures. Traditional Chinese Feng Shui also believes a pair of white marble lions guarding the main entrance of a house can bring power, strength, peace and security to its residents.

China/Ceramic Go Stones

Our ceramic/porcelain Go stones are of high quality among the similar products. They are very durable and basically do not chip. The surface of the stones has a mat finish which makes the color more mild and more eyesight-friendly.
